DEAD SILENCE

2 months earlier

Her breathing is slower and irregular. The only sounds you can hear in the hospital room are the humming and beeping of the devices and their breathing, which is stabilized by the devices.
I hear her lungs rustle when she breathe.
She breathes in ... nothing for a long time ... then she breathes out again. It goes on like this all the time. Day and night, week after week.

It's dark here in the hospital room. Very dark. Although the weather is beautiful outside. It's the beginning of summer. The sun shines with the smile of the people in competition. But since the cancer advanced, it can no longer tolerate brightness and noise. Because with all the medication her body concentrates on the essentials and thus goes into energy-saving mode. Only the lighting of the devices illuminates the room and does not make it appear quite so lifeless.

She has only recently been dependent on the equipment in the hospital. And all because the doctors treating them have previously made mistakes that cannot be rectified. Because my mom pays with her life for these grossly negligent mistakes. All because the doctors misread a CT scan and made a wrong diagnosis. The doctors should have seen that the cancer has progressed and spread. And thus also affected the lungs and skin on the entire upper body. And all that because of a stupid mistake leads to my mom suffocating in agony and no cure or improvement in sight. All of that could have been prevented.

But now with every further breath she takes, she leads closer to the light in the arms of the angel who is already waiting for her at the end of the tunnel.

Outside the hospital, children are playing, people are laughing and have a lot of great and interesting news to tell each other. "Normal" life goes on.
And in here there is dead silence. A darkness that almost overwhelms you.

The only hope I still have is that my mom will fall asleep without pain and unnecessary agony and leave us. Because that's the least she can get from life. Years of struggle for survival and yet lost ...
